  • Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Water Mitigation?
This largely depends on the source and timing of the leak. Typically, homeowners insurance covers water damage from sudden incidents, like a burst pipe or appliance overflow. However, it doesn’t cover gradual damage due to wear and tear or lack of maintenance. For instance, if your roof leaks because it’s old, the repair costs won’t be covered. In contrast, if a tree falls on your roof during a storm, causing leaks, your insurance would likely cover the resulting damage. To know for sure if your insurance will cover a water damage claim, review your specific policy. It’s wise to understand your coverage beforehand and reach out to your insurance agent with any questions.
  • How long will this take?
This is loaded question! It really depends on the class of the water loss and what materials are affected. It may take just a couple days or if the materials impacted with bound water, it may take over a week. Rest assured our team of professionals are trained to assess and determine the best course of action. Our technicians also come out on a daily basis to do moisture checks and continual monitoring of the drying process.
  • Can I be at home during the mitigation process?
It depends ... Our mitigation team will work with you to develop the best plan of action. This will likely be covered during their initial walkthrough and assessment of the water damage to ensure everyone is on the same page about what exactly needs to be done before they begin any work. Your complete restoration plan should include: An estimated timeline A summary of items that can be salvaged or repaired versus those that need to be discarded or replaced Key steps in the process, such as water extraction, drying, and sanitizing Recommendations for any additional repairs, if necessary Depending on the severity of the loss, you may need to have a temporary living situation. We will work with you on those services.
  • Is there different type of water losses?
YES! Depending on the 'category' of water loss, the entire scope of the mitigation process can change. It is vital to know the source of the leak and how it originated. These are the different categories: Category 1: Water comes from clean or sanitary sources of water like a burst pipe (supply line only), broken toilet tank, or overflowing bathtub (unused water). Category 2: Water from a source that contains considerable contamination from organic or inorganic matter and microorganisms. Overflow from your dishwasher or washing machine machine or a broken aquarium would be categorized here. This may sometimes be known as gray water. Category 3: Water originates from a “grossly contaminated” source like sewage, flooding from any body of water, or surface water runoff. Category 3 water can contain pathogens, chemicals, and other harmful agents. You may sometimes see this referred to as “black water.”
